The annual autumn meeting of Slovenian members District 14 of the European Section of the International College of Dentists (ICD) was organised this year for the first time as a joint meeting with one of the national dental societies – the Slovenian Endodontic Society. The scientific part of the meeting was held at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ljubljana under the co-patronage of the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Janja Jan, and the Regent of District 14, Professor Norina Forna. Past President of the European Section of the ICD, endodontist Dr Walter van Driel, presented a lecture entitled “Endodontic problems and treatment possibilities in the elderly”. The audience in the lecture hall of the Faculty of Medicine consisted of Slovenian Fellows of the ICD, members of the Slovenian Endodontic Society, students of dentistry and the postgraduate endodontics programme as well as academic members of Faculty of Medicine. They received, with enthusiasm many clinical tips and tricks, which Dr. van Driel presented from his lifelong career as a clinical endodontist in various parts of the Netherlands.

The social part of the annual meeting followed in the evening at the Brdo Estate, where inductees Dr. Gorjanc, Dr. Groznik, Dr. Kristan and Dr. Mance Kristan were officially introduced to the Slovenian Fellows. Vice-Regent Professor Maja Ovsenik reported on the meeting of the European Section in Limassol and briefly announced the next meeting in Salzburg, Austria. Potential new inductees for the upcoming year were discussed with all Fellows, and the next steps towards our own Slovenian District were presented by Vice-Regent Professor Maja Ovsenik, Past-Regent of District 14 Professor Tomislav Jukić and Rok Jurič. With the cordial involvement and goodwill of all Slovenian ICD members, experienced also by the our distinguished guests, Dr Walter van Driel and his wife Nelly, could foster our efforts to finally achieve this long-standing goal of our first Regent, Professor Ljubo Marion, MICD, to form a new district within the European Section.

The joint meeting of the Slovenian ICD members and the Slovenian Endodontic Society finished in a very friendly atmosphere with the assurance that the following meetings will be organised jointly with the other Slovenian dental societies – Orthodontics, Paediatrics, Prosthodontics, Periodontology and Oral Surgery. The success of this year’s meeting shows that this is a useful way to promote the recognition of the ICD and its core values among dentists in Slovenia.
